The Kennett Education Foundation is seeking support as it continues its mission to enrich students’ experiences.

The Kennett Education Foundation is pleased to announce its annual fund-raiser on Wednesday, April 30, two new scholarships, and the commitment of $150,000 to STEM curriculum at both the middle and high school.

Attendees at the 2014 Annual Spring Fundraiser, which will be held at the Mendenhall Inn, will learn how a small, dedicated group of community members that came together in 2001 to make a difference in the education students receive within the Kennett Consolidated School District.  The STEM commitment is one part of a much larger story, organizers said in a news release.

The first scholarship is a tribute to Kacie Erin Rumford, a promising 2007 Kennett High graduate, who died of a heroin overdoes on March 12, 2013. Kacie, who attended Penn State University and also Delaware County Community College, loved writing and poetry and wanted to make the world a better place. She
enjoyed the many friendships she made while at Kennett High School and her love and vision will continue through the scholarship and a foundation – www.kaciescause.com– set up to raise awareness about the dangers of heroin. The scholarship will be made available to graduating seniors who belong to Kennett High’s Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) and plan to attend an accredited two- or four-year college or university. One winner will be chosen yearly from this group.

A “Reach for the Sky” award is being sponsored by the Yeleswaram family and intended to inspire students to reach their maximum potential regardless of where they start and enable realization of that potential through college education.  In particular, this award is intended to encourage a turnaround in academic achievement.  This scholarship will be awarded to a student with an upward trend in GPA during the high school years.  Preference will be given to students with a financial need and/or first generation to attend college.  This scholarship is awarded one time in the amount of $1,500.

To support the work of the Kennett Education Foundation, organizers urge residents to attend the fund-raiser. It will begin with cocktails and appetizers at 6 p.m., followed by a 7:30 p.m. dinner. The evening will also include guest speakers, silent auction and live auction. Tickets can be purchased online at http://www.kennetteducationfoundation.org.
