The Kennett Area Senior Center sponsors a Book Talk by Donna Murray (from the Bayard Taylor Library) on Wednesday, October 5 at 12:30 p.m. Mrs. Murray will be reviewing the book “Persuasion” by Jane Austen.

The Kennett Area Senior Center sponsors a Health Workshop on Thursday, October 6 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Dr. Chad Laurence will be providing information on back safety, posture and injury protection. You will learn how to avoid back injuries by significantly increasing safety at home and on the job, and drastically reducing the risk of injury by understanding how lifting and posture affects your health.

The Kennett Area Senior Center sponsors a Book Club session on Tuesday, October 11 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. The Book Club is always looking for new members to join the group for stimulating and interesting discussions. They will be reviewing the book “The Appeal” by John Grisham. Please contact Cindy Engle @610-444-3947 if you would be interested in joining the club.

The Kennett Area Senior Center sponsors an afternoon Tea Party on Tuesday, October 11 from 2:30 – 4:00 p.m. In addition to a variety of fine teas, delicacies are served to the delight of the participants. The theme of October’s Tea Party is “Candy Corn Party”. The cost is &6/member and $8/non-member. Please call the KASC for reservations @610-444-4819.

The Kennett Area Senior Center sponsors a Free Blood Pressure Screening on the second Thursday of each month. This service is provided by Neighborhood Health Agencies, Inc. In addition to KASC members, all seniors in the general public age 60 and up are invited to receive this important medical service. No appointment is necessary. The next scheduled date is Thursday, October 13 from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.

The Kennett Area Senior Center sponsors the 2011 Bazaar/Craft Fair with Specialty Vendors on Friday, October 21 from 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. and Saturday, October 22 from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. The annual event features the finest needlework, crafts, a boutique, white elephant, raffle items, collectibles, general store, fashion corner, baked goods, homemade soup by the quart, and “food to go” for your convenience. The Kennett Area Senior Center staff, members, and volunteers have devoted much time and energy into making the 2011 Bazaar/Craft Fair and upscale attraction for all who attend. There is truly something for everyone .

The Kennett Area Senior Center sponsors “The Heart of the Matter” on Thursday, October 27 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon or 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. This is an interactive workshop designed for family, friends, and caregivers serving individuals with Alzheimer’s or Dementia. Invest this time and reap the rewards for a greater understanding and renewed sensitivity regarding the challenges of Dementia. To reserve a seat at one of these sessions, please contact Francesca Censurato @610-444-4819. This is a free service of the Kennett Area Senior Center.

The Kennett Area Senior Center sponsors a monthly “Spirit Day” on Friday, October 28. The theme is “Sports Day” and everyone is encouraged to wear or bring something similar to the theme. This day of fun and social interaction will also include the movie “Invictus” at 12:30 p.m.

The Kennett Area Senior Center sponsors an afternoon “Sunday Dinner with Friends” on Sunday, October 30 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Dinner will be from 1:00 – 1:45 and Music and Dancing from 1:45 – 3:00. The cost is $10/person and the theme is “Our Halloween Party”. Music will be provided by the Center Sounds. Everyone is welcome, regardless of age. Please contact the KASC @610-444-4819 a week in advance for reservations.
