Kennett High’s Gallivan, McCabe & Petrick sign letters of intent

Bright academic & athletic futures await at Philadelphia University, U-Conn & Drexel

KENNETT- Kennett High School (KHS) celebrated three of its seniors signing collegiate letters of intent during a ceremony this week.

Katie Gallivan will be playing lacrosse for Division II Philadelphia University where she will enter the 5-year B.S. in Health Sciences and M.S. in Physician Studies program. Katie has played varsity level lacrosse and field hockey since her freshman year; where she played as a defensive midfielder and a right midfielder, respectively.

Additionally, Katie is also a member of KHS’ track and cross country teams where she ran middle distance (800-1 mile), the 4×400 and 4×800 relays, and the distance medley relay. She holds three of KHS’ track records and competed in the 2013 Nike Northeast Regionals. Katie’s athletic honors include being named to the Lacrosse Academic All-American Team in 2014, and to the Ches-Mont All-Star Team for Field Hockey in 2013 and 2014. Katie was named captain of the lacrosse and field hockey teams in her senior year. Off the field, Katie has made Distinguished Honor Roll for her every KHS semester and was named a National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalist and an AP Scholar in 2014.

Haeli McCabe will be playing field hockey for Division I University of Connecticut. While Haeli was not able to play during her junior and senior years due to ACL injuries, she remained active as the team’s co-captain in her senior year. As a freshman, Haeli received honorable mention from Ches-Mont League and was voted MVP. She was selected for the USA Field Hockey National Futures Tournament in 2011, 2012, and 2013 and Futures Elite in 2013. The National Futures Championship is a premier championship event, highly attended by college recruiters and the USA Field Hockey high performance staff. In addition to playing for KHS, she also plays for the X-Calibur Indoor Field Hockey Club. Haeli has not decided on a course of study yet.

Matt Petrick will be playing lacrosse for Divison I Drexel University; where he will enroll in the Pathway to Health Professions Program. This program lets students earn a B.S. degree and enables them to fulfill all health science prerequisites for post-baccalaureate and graduate programs. Matt has played varsity-level lacrosse since he was a freshman, and in both his junior and senior year he was named captain of KHS’ Boys Varsity Lacrosse Team. He was named to the 2013 and 2014 2nd Team All-Chesmont and also named Defensive MVP in 2014. He also played outside linebacker for KHS’ varsity football team and achieved a 2013 All-Ches-Mont honorable mention and the 2014 Excellence Award. Matt was named a team captain for the 2014 season.
