Unionville native Paul Huberty has turned his passion for Shaker Furniture into a new business venture in Downingtown.

DOWNINGTOWN — Shaker Fine Furniture opened in the borough this past weekend. The new Chester County-based business builds Shaker-inspired furniture, including tables, benches, chairs, cabinets, dressers, and other furniture.

Owner Paul F. Huberty, a long-time Chester County resident and graduate of Unionville High School, started the business to pursue a lifelong passion for Shaker furniture.

“This is a second career for me, but one that I have thought about since high school.”Huberty said. “I have always been inspired by the beauty, strength and proportions of Shaker Furniture. Their furniture was free of adornments and anything that was not essential to its purpose and function; yet, it requires advanced craftsmanship and very careful attention to details.”

Shaker Fine Furniture is located at Valentine Edge’s Mill at 930 Bondsville Road in Downingtown. The three-story stone grist Mill was built in 1784 just eight years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

“I feel that my furniture is inspired by the Shakers, infused with my own style, and blended with the history of Chester County,” Huberty said.

Shaker Fine Furniture is open to the public on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. They can be found at ShakerFineFurniture.com and on Facebook.
