An, um, interesting year comes to a close

By Mike McGann, Editor, The Times To say that 2017 has been an interesting year is something of an understatement. From that standpoint, it has been one of the most amazing years to be in journalism — a dynamic year with no shortage of compelling stories and subject matter. It has also been one of the most challenging — probably the most challenging year in the 34 years I have been in the business.

Op/Ed: Sen. Leach is missing the point

By Kathi Cozzone, Chester County Commissioner Kathi Cozzone Once again, courageous women have come forward to describe their painful experiences at the hand of a man in power and once again they are re-victimized by his response.  After an extensively investigated article in the Philadelphia Inquirer shares the stories of the women who were victims of unwanted advances, State Senator Daylin Leach...

State Sen. Daylin Leach (D-17). We live in a time of reckoning for men (and some women) who have refused to see the appropriate boundaries of personal and professional behavior — and now state Sen. (and would-be Congresman) Daylin Leach (D-17) has been implicated in a deeply reported, multi-sourced story in Sunday’s Philadelphia Inquirer. The allegations — from 11 people — range from inappropriate...

Letter: A troubled and troubling tax reform bill

To the Editor, I don’t know how we have found ourselves in a situation where the President of the United States who is promoting the most quickly thrown together and noxious tax reform policy in U.S. history without our citizen input, can, himself, never have publicly revealed his own taxes so that we can judge just how partially or impartially this bill is geared to the Greater Good vs....

Moore, Trump put local Republicans at severe risk

By Mike McGann, Editor, The Times As we head into the 2018 election season, we see that the two major political parties find themselves at crossroads, with one party seemingly finding its roots after years of wandering and pandering and another so lost, to as be unrecognizable from just a few years ago. For Democrats, heading into 2018 with a wind at their back — and locally, the biggest series...

Yet the same cannot be said for the hundreds of thousands of DREAMers whose lives and futures are still on the line after President Trump ended...

A tragic loss hits Chester County’s political world

By Mike McGann, Editor, The Times Just days after their biggest win in more than a century, Chester County’s Democrats are now grieving one of the biggest losses — a life ended far too soon. Adam Swope, 38, who served as County Commissioner Kathi Cozzone’s Administrative Analyst and myriad other roles with the county party died Saturday afternoon in a fiery crash at the intersection of U.S....

Tuesday’s election results were not all about Trump

By Mike McGann, Editor, The Times Not to mince words, but Tuesday was a bit of a stunner. With the county’s Democrats sweeping the county row office races and making pickups in virtually every category from township supervisor to District Justice, it is clear that Chester County is no longer a one-party county. And yes, to be sure, it was a bit of a referendum on President Donald Trump, as we...
