KENNETT SQUARE — The initial reports on New Years Eve’s Mushroom Drop appear to be highly favorable, borough officials reported during a Borough Council meeting Monday night with a light agenda.

As the first meeting of the new year, Mayor Matthew Fetick was sworn to a new term by District Justice Daniel Maisano, while the entire Borough Council took the oath of office: Patrick Taylor, Lynn Sinclair, Brett Irwin, Dan Maffei, and Geoff Bosley.

The council elected Leon Spencer as president and Maffei as vice president.

Once the primary matters of reorganization were completed, the council turned to a handful of largely administrative tasks, noting that the planned stormwater ordinance hearing had been postponed until Feb. 3.

Beyond that, the discussion turned to the widely-praised Mushroom Drop.

Spencer reported that some 3,128 pounds of food was collected on New Year’s Eve — which will benefit the Kennett Community Cupboard.

Police Chief Edward Zunino said the estimated crowd was between 4,000 and 5,000 people, and there were no incidents reported and no arrests.
