A series of drug purchases last spring gave Kennett Square Police reason to seek a search warrant at a borough residence, where investigators found an infant in a bouncy seat surrounded dirty diapers, discarded hotdogs, illegal narcotics and paraphernalia, court records said.
The discovery led to the sentencing last week of the parents, both of whom negotiated plea agreements in Chester County Court, court records showed. The father, Charles H. Glasco, 50, will spend three to six years behind bars, and his wife, Sonya Woods-Glasco, 30, will spend three years on probation, said Assistant District Attorney Christopher de Barrena-Sarobe.
On May 17, detectives went to Charles Glasco’s residence, a motel room in the 200 block of Birch Street, to arrest Glasco after he had sold more than $300 worth of drugs, including Percocet, oxycodone, and crack cocaine, to a confidential informant over a period of more than a month, court records said. After making contact with Glasco, detectives observed his pregnant wife and infant child in the trash-strewn premises and sought the search warrant, records said.
The execution of the search warrant resulted in additional charges, including endangering the welfare of children, records said. Police found illegal drugs, packaging, and paraphernalia, including two pipes used for smoking crack cocaine, the criminal complaint said. “Due to the small size of the one-bed motel room, the juvenile would have no choice but to be exposed to” the crack smoking, the criminal complaint said.
De Barrena-Sarobe credited the Kennett Square Police Department for its thorough investigation, which resulted in a successful prosecution. “Unfortunately, it’s not unusual for police to walk into a house in situations like this and find children exposed to horrible conditions,” he said.
