New Garden Township Police say he also possessed drug paraphernalia
On Friday, Jan. 24, at 9:51 p.m., a New Garden police officer observed an erratic driver straddling the double yellow line and swerving into the oncoming lane in the 900 block of Penn Green Road, police said. Officers initiated a traffic stop in the 1600 block of Baltimore Pike and made contact with the driver, Timothy Hanning, 28, of Avondale, police said.
Police said Hanning, who attempted to walk away and required the vehicle for support to stand, exhibited visible signs of intoxication. Police said they observed open cans of beer throughout the vehicle and later recovered a multi-colored pipe with suspected marijuana residue inside the vehicle. Hanning was arrested for driving under the influence and possession of drug paraphernalia and released pending an appearance in district court, police said.
On Friday, Jan. 17, at 11:23 p.m., New Garden officers were dispatched to a disturbance in the unit block of Bridle Court. The 9-1-1 caller stated that a female in the house was intoxicated and breaking things, police said; however, upon arrival, police made contact with the woman, who was determined to be the victim. She advised that the caller, Robert Kinderman, 67, of Wilmington, had struck her in the back of the head, police said, adding that a summons for harassment was filed against Kinderman.
New Garden Township officers responded on Tuesday, Jan. 21, at 3:18 p.m., to the 1300 block of Newark Road for the report of a stolen motor vehicle, police said. The victim stated that he stopped to pick up his son and left the engine running in his red Hyundai Elantra due to the snowstorm, police said. When the victim looked outside, he saw his vehicle being driven out of the parking lot, police said.
Surveillance footage enabled police to identify the thief as Deborah Renner, 52, of Lincoln, De., police said. The information was entered into a national database and Delaware authorities were alerted, police said. At 10 p.m., Delaware State Police took Renner was in custody after she crashed the Elantra, police said. Renner is incarcerated in Delaware pending extradition, police said.
