Chesco Historical Society brings ‘History on Tap’ to Kennett Square
“History on Tap,” a program of the Chester County Historical Society that combines insight and discussion with food and drink, is coming to Kennett Square.
On Monday, Feb. 24, at 6:30 p.m., Chris Densmore will present “The Kidnapping of Thomas Mitchell, 1849” at the Half Moon Restaurant. Mitchell, an escaped slave from Elkton, Md., thought he was safe among the Quakers and free people of color in Chester County and found a home near Taggert’s Corners (now Willowdale). Learn about the “reverse Underground Railroad” and how Mitchell’s Chester County neighbors pursued the kidnappers and eventually redeemed Mitchell from a slave-dealer’s prison in Baltimore.
An RSVP is required by Feb. 20 for this special “History on Tap” program since space is limited to 60 attendees and will be available on a first come, first served basis. RSVP to

“History on Tap” is sponsored by Susquehanna Bank, WCHE 1520AM, and in partnership with the 1893s (Chester County Historical Society Young Friends Association) and the Friends of Martin’s Tavern.
