On Wednesday, Feb. 5, at 9:07 a.m., the New Garden Police Department responded to the 1300 block of Newark Road for the report of drugs discovered on a patient, police said.  Upon arrival, the caller said she entered the room of Katelyn Hibbard, 23, of Coatesville, and saw her discard an item into the trash that turned out to be a paper towel containing empty baggies with a white residue inside, police said.  A search of Hibbard revealed more baggies with white residue, a syringe, and a metal tablespoon containing a white residue that field-tested positive for heroin, police said. Hibbard was taken into custody, processed and released pending an appearance in district court on drug offenses, police said.

On Wednesday, Jan. 29, at 12:20 a.m., the New Garden Police Department responded to a domestic dispute between two sisters in the 100 block of Cedar Woods Circle, police said.  Upon arrival, one suspect – Francesca Colon, 26, of West Grove – was observed walking around outside with no shoes and one sock and emanating a strong odor of alcohol, police said. Colon advised that she and her sister, Amanda Pierce, 32, of Kennett Square, had become involved in an argument over their father, police said.

New Garden officers made contact with Pierce, who related that a mutual fight occurred between the two after Colon ripped her necklace, police said. Pierce’s husband attempted to break up the fight, and Colon was pushed outside and began beating on the windows, breaking one, police said. Police told Colon she was no longer permitted at the residence, and both were cited for harassment, police said. Colon was also cited for criminal mischief for the damage done to the window, police said.

Martin Garcia-Zurita, 21, of Toughenamon, is accused of stealing a bottle of liquor, police said.

 

An employee at a business in the 300 block of Scarlett Road called 91-1 to report a retail theft in progress on Tuesday, Feb. 4, at 4:16 p.m., police said.  The employee stated that a Hispanic male wearing a blue jacket and gray hat had left the store with a stolen $19.99 bottle of liquor and dropped the bottle in the snow when confronted and fled, police said. The subject’s description was given to surrounding departments, and a Kennett Square Police Officer located a subject matching the description. After the employee verified his identity, Martin Garcia-Zurita, 26, of Toughkenamon, was taken into custody, processed, and released pending an appearance in district court, police said.

New Garden police officers observed a vehicle crash into a PECO pole near the intersection of Gap Newport Pike and Newark Road on Wednesday, Jan. 29, at 1:12 a.m., police said.  Valerie Wallace, 44 of Avondale, who was seated in the passenger seat of the vehicle, said she had been driving and moved into the passenger seat to have a friend help her move the vehicle, police said.  Wallace, who admitted to drinking five beers, exhibited multiple signs of intoxication and failed field sobriety tests, police said. She was taken into custody on suspicion of drunken-driving and released to a friend pending an appearance in district court, police said.

On Wednesday, Jan. 29, at 2:32 a.m., the New Garden Police Department responded to the report of a vehicle stuck in a ditch after an accident at Hillendale and Chambers Road, police said.  Contact was made with the caller, Patrice Lyons, 53, of Cape May, N.J., who was driving during the accident, police said. Lyons showed visible signs of intoxication, admitted to drinking alcohol, and stated she probably shouldn’t have been driving, police said.  Due to weather conditions, field sobriety tests were not performed, and Lyons was taken into custody on suspicion of drunken-driving, police said. Lyons submitted to a chemical test of breath and was released to a relative pending an appearance in district court, police said.

Alleged threats made against a family by the daughter’s boyfriend led police to the 500 block of Newark Road on Wednesday, Jan. 29 at 4:22 p.m., police said. Upon arrival, the boyfriend was asked to pack his belongings, and the daughter, Stephanie Nelson, 21, of Landenberg, accused her mother of making the pair homeless slapped her mother on the left side of her face with an open right hand in the presence of an officer, police said.  Nelson was taken into custody and cited for harassment, court records said.

On Saturday, Feb. 1, at 8:06 pm, the New Garden Police Department responded to a motor vehicle crash in the area of Baltimore Pike and Center Street, police said.  The caller reported that a vehicle had gone over a wall and came to rest in the parking lot of a business, police said.  Upon arrival, an officer made contact with the driver, Samuel Perez-Reynoso, 20 of Toughkenamon, police said, adding that he exhibited signs of intoxication and was taken into custody for suspected drunk-driving, police said. Perez-Reynoso was unable to provide any ID; therefore, he had to be arraigned and was released on $5,000 unsecured bail, police said. A second man returned to the scene and identified himself as Darinel Mendez-Diaz, 21, of Toughkenamon, police said.  Mendez-Diaz was visibly intoxicated and was taken into custody for public drunkenness and released to a neighbor, police said.

On Friday, Feb. 7, at 8:13 pm, the New Garden Police Department was on patrol in the 1600 block of Baltimore Pike when a white Ford F150 travelling west on Baltimore Pike was seen making a large sweeping turn onto Penn Green Road and straddled the double yellow center line for approximately 100 feet, police said. After more erratic driver, police said they initiated a traffic in the 8800 block of Gap Newport Pike in a parking area.  The operator, Roberto Gonzales-Mendiola, 31, of Avondale, exited the vehicle and fell to the ground, police said. After failing field sobriety tests, Gonzales-Mendiola was placed under arrest for suspected drunken-driving, police said, adding that he was processed and released pending an appearance in district court.

New Garden officers on patrol in the 1400 block of Broad Run Road on Sunday, Feb. 9, observed a silver BMW accelerate aggressively and proceed through a stop sign at Buttonwood Road, police said. The BMW’s Delaware license plate had expired registration stickers, and the driver was observed making movements toward the glove box area on multiple occasions, police said.  A traffic stop was conducted in the 800 block of Southwood Road, and the driver, Marc Kaiser 49 of Hockessin, showed visible signs of intoxication, smelled of cologne, and failed a portable breath test, police said. An inventory search revealed a bottle of cologne in the glove box and a paper bag containing a bottle of liquor in the trunk area, police said. Kaiser was taken into custody for suspected drunken-driving, processed, and transported home to await a district court appearance, police said.
