Presentation will be part of Chester County Historical Society Antiques Show
The Chester County Historical Society (CCHS) is hoping residents will mark their calendars for the 32nd Annual Chester County Antiques Show, a major benefit that will be held from April 4 to April 6 at the Phelps School in Malvern.
Included in this year’s program will be the Mary Elizabeth Robinson Memorial Lecture on Saturday, April 5, at 1 p.m. This year’s presentation by Jan Whitlock is entitled “American Sewn Rugs and the Decorative Arts.”
Whitlock, who resides in New York, started in the antiques business in 1995, after a successful career in textile design and marketing. Her specialty began with textiles of all periods, then narrowed to folk art textiles and those of the 18th and early 19th centuries. Whitlock follows the “good, better, best” principle and attempts to offer only items in the latter category, a CCHS news release said.
Jan Whitlock Textiles has sold to many private collectors, and has placed several items in museum collections; including Winterthur, the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Old Sturbridge Village, Colonial Williamsburg, The Milwaukee Art Museum, and the DAR Museum. Whitlock has published several articles on textiles, including Embroidered Blankets and Baltimore Album Quilts. American Sewn Rugs: Their History with Exceptional Examples is her latest publication, the release said.
A preview party for the show will be held on Friday, April 4, from 5 to 9 p.m. The regular show hours are Saturday, April 5, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, April 6, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., the release said.
The Phelps School features accessibility, spaciousness, and natural light that will create the perfect setting for the vendors and all of their antique items. The theme of this year’s event is “Recreation, Hobbies and Leisurely Pursuits.”
The show attracts over 2,000 visitors and collectors every year to view its variety of items and furniture. Contact David Reinfeld at 610-692-4800, ext. 267, or via
