Organizers say slightly more than half of the needed $10,000 has been raised

imagesThe deadline for saving Kennett High’s After Prom is looming: Organizers have set a March 1 date to raise the $10,000 needed to provide a safe and entertaining venue for students.

The good news? More than half that amount has come in during the past week. However, the bad news is that failure to close the gap will result in cancelling the event. Organizers said fund-raising efforts were adversely affected by the weather, and the money is needed to pay vendors’ deposits.

Organizers want to remind members of the community that running this event benefits everyone, not just the attendees and parents of prom-goers. All of the students who attend are kept safe in a fun, positive environment, avoiding the risk of accidents that could injure the students as well as others. Students who say they aren’t going to attend the After Prom typically change their mind at the last minute. In addition, for some students who can’t afford the prom and its attendant expenses, or for those who are not socially comfortable attending the prom, the free Kennett After Prom provides their only prom experience.
