Residents encouraged to park for free in municipal garage

IMG_2585Kennett Square Mayor Matt Fetick issued a snow emergency, effective from 8 p.m. Sunday, March 2, until 11 a.m. on Monday, March 3, borough news releases said.

Residents are encouraged to park for free in the municipal garage. Parking is prohibited on the following snow emergency routes:

Birch Street – NORTH SIDE only; West Cedar Street – BOTH SIDES from Meredith to Union; Cypress Street – BOTH SIDES; Meredith Street – WEST SIDE  between State and Cedar; Race Street – BOTH SIDES between State and Cypress; South Street – SOUTH SIDE; State Street – BOTH SIDES; Union Street – BOTH SIDES; Walnut Street – EAST SIDE; East Linden Street – BOTH SIDES between Union and Willow; Broad Street – BOTH SIDES between State and Cypress; North Willow Street – BOTH SIDES from Linden to State; Ridge Avenue – SOUTH SIDE; and North Mill Road – BOTH SIDES from State to the Borough line.

Any vehicles parked on these routes will be ticketed and towed at the owners’ expense, the release said.

The National Weather Service is urging people to avoid hazardous travel during the storm, which is predicted to begin Sunday afternoon as rain before changing to sleet and freezing rain and then snow Sunday evening. Accumulation of six to eight inches are forecast with a trace of ice before the storm ends early Monday afternoon.
