Borough police also investigating two thefts involving iPhones
On Thursday, Feb. 27, at 10:22 p.m., a New Garden Township officer observed a vehicle travelling well below the posted speed limit and veering erratically into the oncoming lane in the 800 block of Newark Road, police said. A traffic stop was conducted, and police said they made contact with the driver, Eduardo Duran-Isais 18, of Modena. Duran-Isais exhibited multiple signs of intoxication, failed field sobriety tests and a portable breath test and was taken into custody for suspected drunk-driving, police said. He was processed and released pending an appearance in district court, New Garden Police said.
A group standing at the rear of some closed businesses in the 300 block of Scarlett Road got the attention of a New Garden officer on Friday, Feb. 28, at 11:38 p.m., police said. A traffic stop was conducted on a vehicle leaving the area with no headlights illuminated, and contact was made with the four occupants of the vehicle, three of whom were juveniles, police said. The front-seat passenger, Mauricio Martinez-Juarez, 21, of Wilmington, De., Juarez initially provided a false name but was truthful after his ID was located in the vehicle, police said. Martinez-Juarez admitted to having marijuana and retrieved it from under his seat; he was taken into custody for possession of the marijuana, processed, and released pending an appearance in district court, police said.
On Sunday, March 2, at 2:06 a.m., a stationary New Garden Township Police officer watching traffic at the intersection of Baltimore Pike and Newark Road, observed a Honda Accord northbound on Newark Road making an illegal right turn onto Baltimore Pike, police said. A traffic stop was conducted in the 1200 block of Baltimore Pike, and the driver, Alonzo Gonzalez-Orozco, 25, of Avondale, was taken into custody for suspected drunk-driving after exhibiting signs of intoxication and failing field sobriety tests. Gonzalez-Orozco was processed and released pending an appearance in district court, police said.
Kennett Square Police cited Jose Castaneda, 21, and Omar Reza, 20, both of Kennett Square, for public drunkenness on Friday, Feb. 14, at 9:54 p.m. at East South Street and Park Avenue, police said. Castaneda and Reza were both processed and released at their residence, Kennett Square Police said.
Mario Garcia-Sanchez, 28, of Kennett Square, was arrested for driving under the influence following a traffic stop on Saturday, Feb. 15, at 9:20 p.m. in the 500 block of East State Street, Kennett Square Police said. Garcia-Sanchez was processed and released at his residence, pending a summons from district court, police said.
Sometime between 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18, and 2 a.m. on Wednesday, a residence in the 300 block of Juniper Street was burglarized, Kennett Square Police said. An iPhone 3, iPhone4 and an iPod Nano were taken; an investigation continues, borough police said.
On Thursday, Feb. 20, Kennett Square Police said they received a report that sometime between 3 and 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 20, an iPhone5 was stolen from a business in the 100 block Race Street. An investigation is continuing, police said.
Kennett Square Police cited Eugene Boddy, 38, of Kennett Square, for disorderly conduct and public drunkenness for causing a disturbance at a business in the 200 block of South Union Street on Thursday, Feb. 20, at both 12:36 p.m. and 6:36 p.m., police said, adding that Boddy was released to a relative.
A Landenberg woman was arrested following a traffic stop in the 100 block of East State Street on Thursday, Feb. 20, at 10:48 p.m., Kennett Square Police said. Police said Elizabeth Treisner, 32, had been driving under the influence; she was processed and released pending a summons from district court, police said.
