Officials asking homeowners to remove fallen trees, branches

Screen Shot 2014-03-15 at 10.16.11 AMThe S-word is in the forecast again – more on that when we get closer to its predicted Sunday evening arrival. In the meantime, the weekend may offer a good opportunity to do some yard cleanup.

Due to the recent punishing weather and ice storms, Kennett Township officials want to remind residents that fallen trees and branches can be an impediment to emergency officials. “In order for emergency service vehicles to promptly respond if you have an emergency, there needs to be adequate clearance when entering your driveways,” said a news release from the township. “We ask that you have a minimum of 12-foot-wide and 16-foot-high clearance on your entrance driveway.”

Kennett Township Fire Marshall Bruce Mitchell said homeowners need to be mindful of making sure that trees, shrubs and yard debris don’t hinder response time. “The easier we can get to the situation, the quicker we can do our jobs,” he said.

The release added that house numbers need to be marked and visible for emergency services and are available at Longwood Fire Company.
