KING OF PRUSSIA – Two ramps along southbound U.S. 202 will be closed and detoured at the Rt. 29 Interchange in East Whiteland Township for approximately two months, starting this spring,  the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced on Wednesday, April 23.

PennDOT said the upcoming temporary ramp closures will expedite the placing of new ramp and highway pavements along the southbound side of U.S. 202. The ramp closures will allow construction to be done in a single operation rather than multiple mini-stages, a PennDOT news release said.

From Monday, April 28, to June 16, the Swedesford Road on-ramp to U.S. 202, which is located east of Rt. 29 across from Liberty Boulevard, will be closed and detoured. The posted detour will take motorists west on Swedesford Road to the on-ramp to southbound U.S. 202, the release said.

From May 12 to July 14, the U.S. 202 South off-ramp to Rt. 29 South/Malvern will be closed and detoured. The posted detour will take southbound U.S. 202 motorists off at the Rt. 29 North/Great Valley exit. Drivers will then turn left at Swedesford Road and follow it to Rt. 29, the release said.

The work is part of PennDOT’s $105.4 million project to expand four miles of U.S. 202 to six lanes from north of the Rt. 401 Interchange to the Rt. 252/Swedesford Road Interchange. Construction began in April 2011 and is scheduled to finish this fall.  PennDOT currently has two projects in construction to expand 6.5 miles of U.S. 202 to six lanes from just south of the Rt. 252 Interchange to the U.S. 30 Interchange to enhance travel and reduce congestion, the release said.
