Officials said cited threat left on calculator as reason
A dance scheduled at the Kennett Middle School for Friday night, May 2, was apologetically canceled in the wake of threats made at the school, a PTO email said.
School officials could not be reached for comment, and a message on the school’s web site simply said the dance was canceled.
New Garden Township Police Chief Gerald R. Simpson said that he was not aware of the cancellation but that his department responded to the middle school on Thursday afternoon after “a veiled threat “was left on a calculator at the school. Simpson said that at least two other comparable incidents have occurred over the past six months. He said similar veiled threats were communicated using different means, such as writing on a wall or bathroom stall.
On Thursday night, Simpson said K-9 units were brought in, and the building was deemed safe. He said that extra security was planned for Friday morning. “These kinds of distractions are problematic for everyone,” he said.
