24-year-old man accused of defrauding company of more than $500
On Tuesday, April 22, at 1:39 p.m., the New Garden Police Department responded to the report of an employee theft discovered in the 900 block of West Cypress Street, police said. Upon arrival, the regional loss prevention manager had the employee, Dale E. Cole, 24, of Nottingham, in his office, accused of individual acts of theft began in November 2013, police said.
Cole allegedly used several means to steal more than $500, including corporate discounts on purchases, taking money from the register, stealing parts, and returning merchandise for cash that was not purchased, police said Cole was taken into custody without incident and transported to the station for an interview, during which he admitted to the thefts, police said.
On Wednesday, April 23, at 5:46 p.m., New Garden officers responded to the 1200 block of Newark Road for the report of a subject who struck two vehicles, police said. Upon arrival, a witness told police that the driver of the striking vehicle was attempting to leave, and police said they detained Matthew Devestine, 25, of Landenberg, who was incoherent and appeared to be under the influence of some type of controlled substance, police said, adding that they observed prescription pill bottles on the driver’s seat. Devestine admitted to consuming the pills, and he was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI and released pending a summons from district court, police said.
A reported disturbance led New Garden officers to the 900 block of West Cypress Street on Saturday, April 26, at 4:05 p.m. police said. A male who had threatened an employee earlier had returned to the business and coerced the victim into receiving narcotics, police said. The suspect left in a vehicle that was located and stopped in the 1500 block of Baltimore Pike, police said. The victim identified two men as the persons in his place of employment earlier when he was threatened and later coerced into receiving narcotics, which tested positive for heroin, police said. As a result, Mujahid Shakoor, 18, and Bryant Little, 18, both of Philadelphia, were charged with numerous drug violations, arraigned, and remanded to Chester County Prison after failing to post bail.
On Saturday, April 26, at 10:18 p.m., New Garden officers responded to a 9-1-1 hang-up in the 600 block of Cedar Woods Circle, police said. While responding, the complaint was upgraded to a domestic, police said. Upon arrival, contact was made with Heather Curry, 36, and Craig Curry, 37 both of Kennett Square, both of whom appeared intoxicated. Heather Curry stated the pair became involved in a verbal argument and she was pushed by him, causing her to fall into the bathtub, where the shower curtain and curtain rod were observed pulled from the wall into the tub, police said. Craig Curry said only that the argument became physical and he was scratched in the chin and wrist, causing minor abrasions, police said. Both parties declined help from the Domestic Violence Center and were advised they would both be receiving citations for harassment, police said.
