Kennett, Unionville track stars head to states

Kennett High School’s Sara Finfrock is among local student athletes headed to compete in the State High School Track Championships this weekend at Shippensburg State University.

A number of local Unionville and Kennett athletes will be competing at the state high school track meet at Shippensburg University, starting Friday.

The Unionville High School girls finished sixth in the 4 x 800 meter relay and eclipsed the state time by 16 seconds to punch their ticket to Shippensburg next weekend. The team consisted of  Gretchen Mills, Anna Juul, Olivia Young, Cami Rickenbach.

Courtney Smith was the only individual state qualifier from Unionville for the girls, placing third in the 3200 meter run with a time of 10:57.8.

The Unionville High School boys team had two individual qualifiers.  Francis Peabody finished eighth with a personal best time of 49.39 in the 400 meter dash to qualify for states.  Colin McDonald finished 7th in the 1600 meter run with a personal best time of 4:22.22 to advance to the state meet.

Kennett High School will be sending one qualifier.  Sara Finfrock who is a senior will be competing in the Pole Vault on Saturday.  Sara has committed to West Virginia University on a scholarship for her pole vaulting abilities.
