PoliceBlotterNEW GARDEN — Two area men were charged with driving under the influence after a pair of traffic stops by township police this past weekend.

In the early morning hours of Saturday, June 28, 2014  township police said they observed a blue Audi driving erratically on Scarlett Road. The vehicle was allegedly observed speeding and said to be crossing over the lane indicators on multiple occasions. After reportedly observing the vehicle fail to stop at a clearly posted stop sign a traffic stop was conducted in the 500 block of Hillendale Road.

Police contacted the driver, Fabian Escobar-Garcia, 27 of Kennett Square. During the traffic stop, police said, an odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected along with glassy eyes and several empty beer bottles on the driver’s side floor area of the vehicle. Escobar-Garcia was administered standard Field Sobriety Tests, which police said, confirmed signs of impairment. Escobar-Garcia was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI; he was released pending an appearance at Magisterial District Court 15-4-04.

Later that evening, police said they observed a vehicle driving erratically on Baltimore Pike. The vehicle was observed, police said, to drive off the roadway as it approached a traffic light. Police said the vehicle was then observed to make a right turn driving upon a large asphalt curb and through a portion of a business parking lot.

Police stopped the vehicle in the 100 block of Willow Street. Police talked to the driver, Jose Zamudio, 54 of Toughkenamon. During the traffic stop, police said an odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected along with glassy and bloodshot eyes. Additionally, police said, Zamudio admitted to consuming beer while attempting to provide requested document. The officer administered the Standard Field Sobriety Tests to Zamudio, who, according to police, exhibited signs of impairment. Zamudio was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI and was released pending an appearance at Magisterial District Court 15-4-04.
