West Chester event at The Hickman features works of local popular artists

WEST CHESTER — The Hickman Friends Senior Community of West Chester is bringing a new twist to their 11th annual Art of Caring. Instead of an auction gala, they will host a free Art of Caring Festival on Saturday, Sept. 27 from 10 am to 4 pm, featuring works by several popular local artists on display and for sale in front of their residence at 400 North Walnut Street. The rain date for the festival is Sunday, September 28.

Burgeoning artists are also getting in on the action this year, with representation from West Chester University art students and the Teen Arts Council of Pennsylvania at the Art of Caring Festival. There will be musical performances throughout the day, children’s activities provided by the West Chester Friends School and the West Chester Public Library, and a variety of entertainers and food vendors.

Also new to the Art of Caring this year is a partnership between The Hickman and Chester County Art Association, which is being celebrated with Mixer receptions at both organizations on Friday, Saturday 26. From 5 to 8 pm that evening, The Hickman will host a retrospective exhibit of the first 10 years of the Art of Caring, featuring a curated selection of painted furniture from previous events and a wine tasting, featuring Galer Estate Wines. From 7 to 10 pm, Chester County Art Association will host a juried exhibition at their 100 North Bradford Avenue location on the theme Place: Home, Neighborhood, Town, including a display of historical archives from the West Chester Public Library. Both events will also feature pieces by renowned artists John Suplee and Lele Galer, among others.

2014-AOC-logoTickets for admission to both Mixer receptions are $50 per person, or $90 per couple. They are also good for free admission to the Chester County Historical Society at 225 North High Street in West Chester from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm on Saturday, September 27. Art of Caring Festival attendees will receive bracelets that are also good for free CCHS admission on the same day.

Proceeds from the Mixer receptions and the Art of Caring Festival will benefit both CCAA and The Hickman’s resident assistance program. To purchase tickets to the Mixer, please call Eliza Mohler at The Hickman (484-760-6413) or Karen Delaney at CCAA (610-696-5600). For more information on The Hickman, please visit www.thehickman.org.
