WEST GROVE — Last Sunday afternoon the 64th Brandywine Otter Scouts of the Baden-Powell Service Association (BPSA) set up and decorated a “Giving Tree” at the Pets & Friends store in Jenners Village Shopping Center.
A project devised by Group Scoutmaster Victoria Grimme and Store Manager Jeanne McGlinchey, the Giving Tree is decorated with handmade tags identifying requested donations for local pet rescues and shelters. Shoppers can select a tag and purchase or provide the item for donation. Donated items are placed under the tree. The Otter Scouts will collect and deliver the gifts throughout the holiday season.
“One of our Scout laws is ‘be a friend to animals,’” said Otter Leader Tim Grimme. “We are excited to help these rescue groups with the work they do to help animals.”
Donations to the Giving Tree benefit several local rescue organizations and shelters: Delaware Humane Association, Greenmore Farm Animal Rescue, Senior Dog Haven & Hospice, Free to Be Dog Haven, Chester County SPCA, All Mutts Matter Foundation, and Rescue Dogs Rock Animal Rescue.
Shoppers can visit the tree and leave donations throughout the holiday season at Pets & Friends, 51 Jenners Village Center, West Grove, PA 19390, during regular business hours.
The BPSA was formed in the U.S. in 2006 as a co-ed, inclusive, secular and traditional-style Scouting association. The association continues the principles and practices of Scouting laid down by Robert Baden-Powell in 1907 that have been developed and refined in Scout associations around the world for over a century. The BPSA is totally independent of, and not affiliated with, either the Boy Scouts of America or the Girls Scouts of the USA; the BPSA is a member of the World Federation of Independent Scouts (WFIS).
