Area residents can become members of their local YMCAs without paying a joining fee during January.

As of January 1, 2015, two area YMCA organizations officially unite to form YMCA of Greater Brandywine. Leadership from YMCA of the Brandywine Valley and YMCA of the Upper Main Line voted in June to merge the two associations. To celebrate the merger, all branches of YMCA of Greater Brandywine will waive the joiner fee for any new members who join the Y during the month of January.

The merger unites almost all of Chester County under one YMCA organization, serving more than 80,000 members at nine locations.

“Building on the strengths of our two associations, I am confident that we can provide our members with the highest-quality Y experience and make a lasting, positive impact on our community,” says Denise L. Day, President and CEO of YMCA of Greater Brandywine.

The nine branches include: Brandywine YMCA, Coatesville; Jennersville YMCA, West Grove; Kennett Area YMCA, Kennett Square; Lionville Community YMCA, Exton; Octorara Program Center, Atglen; Oscar Lasko Youth Program Center, downtown West Chester; Upper Main Line YMCA, Berwyn; West Chester Area YMCA, West Chester; and Y at Great Valley, Malvern.

Under the new association, members have access to all nine branch facilities, opening the door to many new experience opportunities, such as a climbing tower and skate park at the Kennett Area Y, racquetball courts at the Oscar Lakso Youth Program Center and hiking trails and more than 20 tennis courts at Upper Main Line Y.
