Area residents come out of ‘hibernation’

KENNETT SQUARE – Chester County residents have persevered through a long, cold, snow-filled week complete with school closures and navigating icy roads. This weekend, area residents came out and rallied in support of Kennett High Schools’ (KHS) performance of Rodgers and Hammerstein’ s Oklahoma and to also enjoy the historic Borough’s First Friday festivities.
After months of practices, talented performers, musicians, stage crew and fans suffered a big disappointment when KHS cancelled Thursday’s opening night performance due the snow storm that blanketed the area. However, snow could not extinguish home-town pride Friday and Saturday night; KHS’ auditorium was packed in support of the more than 100 hard working cast, musicians and crew. The Times is pleased to share some of the performance fun in the above slideshow.
A few blocks away (walking distance…no Surrey with the Fringe on Top needed…), Kennett Borough’s Mala Galleria hosted a reception celebrating photographer Jie Deng and her The People of Kennett Square exhibit as a part of the First Friday stroll special events.
Mala Galleria’s warm, inviting, boutique feel was complimented by live music from Kennett’s own Rose Project Band, light refreshments and a festive crowd.

The Times spoke with guests in attendance from West Chester, Philadelphia, Hockessin in addition to locals from Unionville and Kennett. The exhibit features Deng’s poignant photography; highlighting twenty inspiring Kennett Square residents while also showcasing the diversity of this historic community. The exhibit will run through the end of March. Additional information can be found on Galleria’s home page: www.malagalleria.com.
