And yes, it is all about the hat — create one that reflects your sense of style

Today is Point to Point and next Sunday is the Willowdale Steeplechase! Do you have the perfect dress? Appropriate shoes (my suggestion is a wedge as opposed to a heel…you won’t sink into the ground)? More importantly, do you have a hat? There are so few occasions these days to wear one, I say go big or go home! I understand not wanting to spend a fortune on something you will likely throw in the back of your closet…so, I decided to brainstorm some ideas to make a plain, old straw hat (available at a variety of locations for under 10 bucks) look fabulous:

● A lightweight scarf folded in half and tied around the middle of the hat is an easy solution. It instantly adds color and interest and you will certainly wear the scarf again. I would like to suggest a Lilly Pulitzer version from Target, but, alas, they were all sold out in a matter of minutes.

Steeplechase-2015● Hot glue a wide ribbon (pick a bright color out of the pattern of your outfit or go with a complimentary color. It doesn’t have to be matchymatchy to look pretty) Add a large, fabric flower or a cluster of rhinestone brooches for some extra pizazz.

● I love the idea of using feathers! Simply stick the quills into the hat and secure with a pin underneath to keep them in place. Michael’s Craft Store has bags of fancy options.

● Tassels are everywhere in fashion this year. Buy a yard of trim from the sewing section and hot glue around the brim of the hat. Voila! Chicness personified. Your hat should be a reflection of your personality! Adding one (or more) of my suggestions will guarantee that you’ll be the finest filly at your tailgate!

Happy Weekend 🙂
