POCOPSON — As she reorganized some pet products in the store, Lauren Bohnert, manager of pet and wild bird departments at Brandywine Ace, Pet & Farm, put together an assortment of items including collars, leashes, litter pans, and dog toys. “There was approximately $1,500 worth of product, but many were items of which we no longer have a good selection in color or size or just don’t carry any longer,” she explains. “We thought our friends at the Chester County SPCA (CCSPCA) could put them to good use.”

Eli Martinez, who leads up strategic partnerships and advancement for CCSPCA and Julie Landy, community engagement manager, were thrilled with collection of pet-related items. “It’s an amazing donation!” asserts Martinez. He adds that many of the items will be put to use immediately at CCSPCA or shared with local rescues. Plus, he says some of the collars and leashes will be given to adopters. “Sometimes people are so excited about getting their new pet that they don’t think to bring a collar or leash,” he chuckles.

Brandywine Ace, Pet & Farm, located at 1150 Pocopson Rd., West Chester, hosts the CCSPCA for adoption events on the third Saturday of each month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and regularly houses kittens for adoption at the store. Martinez believes mobile adoption events, such as those at Brandywine Ace, Pet & Farm, are very successful because the dogs they select for these “tours” have been well-tested for temperament and “People are impulsive. If they are shopping in the store and an adorable puppy magically appears in front of them, they just fall in love with it,” he says with a smile.
