WEST CHESTER — Whitford Charitable Fund donated over $130,000 last year and hopes to exceed that amount this year. With that goal in mind, they decided to launch a new event, “Give Something Back Day” to help kick things off.  “Give Something Back Day” is a one day golf tournament designed to reach a whole new demographic that normally would have been unable to participate in the Whitford Classic that is held each fall. “Give Something Back Day” was a chance for WCF to raise additional funds for the current 21 grantees.

Despite being one of the hottest days of the summer, the heat didn’t dampen golfers’ desire to give back to Chester County. With the help of generous sponsors, like Ruggeri Cadillac who provided hole-in-one prizes which included a two-year lease on a brand new Cadillac, a set of golf clubs, and a trip to TPC in Florida, “Give Something Back Day” was able to raise over $6,000 which will be added to WCF’s grantee distribution this fall. The winning foursome for the day was the team of Jim Terry, Lou Teti, Mark Ellinger, and Tim McCloskey. Speaking about the success of the event, Jim Terry, Chairman of the Whitford Charitable Fund had this to say:  “Our first ever ‘Give Something Back Day’ was a real success, and hopefully will provide the foundation that we and our Classic Beneficiaries can build upon for years to come.”

The Whitford Charitable Fund is the philanthropic arm of the Whitford Country Club. Charged with a mission to “give something back to Chester County”, WCF has given out nearly $500,000 in just four short years. WCF focuses on providing financial support to smaller, Chester County-located and serving nonprofits. The fund has grown from granting funds to 8 local nonprofits, to over 20. WCF’s main event of the year, the Whitford Classic is right around the corner in September from the 11th to the 13th. The Whitford Classic is a weekend-long fundraising event, which incorporates all aspects of the country club: golf, tennis, and swimming. The weekend kicks off with the Whitford Gala Friday and ends Sunday with a pro-am golf tournament.

Headquartered in West Chester’s historic Lincoln Building, the Chester County Community Foundation connects people who care with causes that matter, so their legacy philanthropy makes a difference now and forever.  The Community Foundation holds nearly $50 million in trust and annually awards $2.5 million in grants and scholarships.  For more information, contact www.chescocf.org or (610) 696-8211.
