A few things to perk up a slow, rainy weekend

By Kelly Hockenberry, Columnist The Times

KellyColumn415Newest815Good grief, this was a slooooow weekend, wasn’t it? I mean, a little rain is important every now and again; but, it sure does put a damper on things! (pun intended) Thankfully, the meteorologists were wrong about the forecast for the BILLIONTH time. Why even have doppler radar?

With everyone cooped up in the house for the past 48 hours, it was nice to escape to my office and jot down the six things on my mind for the month of October.

Ready? Here ya go…

  • The Martian I hate seeing a movie on opening ..especially in the rain. The weather, coupled with those new, reclining seats at the theater, means even less space and I refuse to get stuck in the first row. NOT enjoyable. But, this film is definitely on my list of things to do!
  • bareMinerals Love At First Kiss I am a lipstick junkie. It is my firm belief that a girl can never have too many (as evidenced by the contents of my makeup drawer). This 10piece bareMinerals collection has every shade you will need for the fall season. I literally LOVE every color. Available at Houppette in Kennett Square!
  • Whine About It Wednesday If you have not “liked” Matt Bellassai on Facebook, you must. Right now. He is HILARIOUS and will totally make you look forward to Wednesday. He’s a comedian who gets drunk at his desk and complains about things that annoy him. I cry actual tears from laughing so hard. Warning: he curses, so, be careful watching around your kids.
  • October 2015 Super SixCrockpot Chicken Cheesesteaks I love to find easy, crockpot recipes. There is nothing better than throwing a bunch of random ingredients into that magical appliance and coming home hours later to a meal. I found this concoction the other day and I’m planning on making it this week. I realize that I should have tested it before writing about it…but, how bad can it be? It’s chicken, peppers, onions and melted cheese on a roll. No brainer. (famous last words) Here’s the website with the instructions: http://bit.ly/1GqcpQN
  • Natural Manicure I love a dark, moody, mani in the fall. Black, navy, grey, red. I am not usually a fan of a french manicure…I think it can seem a little too “Lee Press On Nailish”. But, the natural look is all the rage, lately. The trick is to request a more subtle white (as opposed to the stark color that is normally used), and a barelythere, perfectly polished effect is the It is a nice departure every once in awhile. Of course, go to My Polished Salon on Union Street in Kennett. The BEST in town. Hands down. (I am killing it with puns today!)
  • Fur anything Faux or real, the look is a musthave for the season. At No.109 Shop on State Street in Kennett, the options are Vests, ponchos, jackets and sweaters all adorned with various colors of fur will enhance your wardrobe for the fall and winter. Elevate your everyday basics with something luxurious!

Well, there you have it…my Super Six for October. Pretty soon we will be talking turkey and making wish lists for the holidays!

Happy Weekend
