KENNETT SQUARE — It just goes to show that Kennett Square has more than just mushrooms.

The efforts of Historic Kennett Square (HKS) continue to go a long way in boosting Kennett’s commerce in the lagging economy, as well as keeping small town civic pride alive.

“Last month’s fundraising events were very successful, along with the Halloween Parade,” Mary Hutchins of HKS said. “We also received great press from the ribbon cutting we had on October 12th for seven new businesses.”

Also slated to open is Mystique, a men’s and women’s fashion boutique located at 116 E. State Street. The space was left vacant since the departure of the Kennett Paper.

In the vein of upcoming events, HKS announced the Winter Outdoor Farmer’s Market to be held at 2-4 PM on the first and third Fridays of the month, located on State Street at the Genesis Walkway.  The market will include locally grown fruits and vegetables, farm-fresh meat and dairy products, homemade baked goods, jams, and jellies, cut flowers and plants, and more.

As for the upcoming Holiday Season, a parade is scheduled for November 25th featuring Mr. & Mrs. Claus, at tree lighting, and The Mummers. Shops will open their doors to visitors and locals alike for this traditional event.

In keeping with the holiday spirit, HKS has planned the Holiday Art Stroll for December 2nd.  The Kennett arts community invites the public to visit the unique, independently-owned shops, galleries, and restaurants to enjoy special exhibits, delicious food, and refreshments throughout the downtown area.

Finally, winter carriage rides are slated for December 4th, 11th, and 18th. The public will be able to enjoy rides from authentic horse-drawn carriages from noon to 3 PM on the respective dates.
