A Lower Oxford man faces multiple charges in the murder of his grandmother, as well as the attempted sexual assault of his mother, early Tuesday.

State Police said that Kevin Anthony Havelow Jr., 23, is charged in the stabbing death of 81-year-old Aleen Watters, early Tuesday.

The Avondale Barracks of the State Police reported that they responded to a call at approximately 2:25 a.m. on Irwin Drive and found Watters unresponsive with trauma to her head, neck and chest. Troopers attempted emergency medical treatment, but Watters died at the the scene.

Following an investigation and forensic analysis, State Police charged Havelow with murder, attempted rape, aggravated indecent assault and other related charges.

According to police, the incident began when Havelow became engaged in a physical fight in an upstairs hallway of the home. Police said that Havelow “pulled his mother to the floor and pulled down her pants. The accused then sexually assaulted his mother. The mother was then able to escape and retreated to a powder room on the first floor.”

At that point, State Police said, Havelow chased his mother before confronting his grandmother, Watters, in the kitchen. Police Havelow then dragged his grandmother into an adjacent bedroom and sexually assaulted her. Havelow’s mother attempted to defend Watters by striking him with a broom handle, police said. That prompted him to chase his mother again, catching her and allegedly resuming his assault on her.

Havelow’s sister attempted to intervene, and the mother was able to escape to a utility room. Police said that at that point, Havelow went back to the kitchen and got a knife and returned to Watters’ bedroom. State Police said he then stabbed Watters multiple times.

State Police took Havelow into custody and he was arraigned before District Justice Scott Massey. He remains in custody at Chester County Prison.
