Letter: Longwood should be recognized for storm service

To The Editor,

Letters1The Longwood Fire Company personnel should be recognized for the effort they put forth to ensure the public’s safety during last weekend’s blizzard.

Approximately 750 man hours were expanded staffing the firehouse to ensure quick responses during the fierce storm. We responded to 17 calls from Saturday through Monday and another two today. Included were a total of 13 medical assist calls.

One of the calls involved an overturned propane truck on the Route 1 Bypass which had to be closed after the trip began leaking. The truck had a 2,400 gallon capacity.

The Longwood Fire Company gladly serves the public but the members should also be recognized for their service during times of emergencies.

A.J. McCarthy

Fire Chief

Longwood Fire Co.
