The KAU Little League recently honored its 2015 District 28 award winners. Each year, the District—which includes Little Leagues from throughout Chester County—recognizes players, parents, and other volunteers from every league for their achievements, sportsmanship, and dedication to their respective teams and organizations. KAU Little League players—who range in age from four to 18—attend schools in the Unionville-Chadds Ford and Kennett Consolidated School Districts or live within the geographic boundaries of those districts.

Fourteen-year-old Hannah Dickinson was named “Sportsperson of the Year” for softball. A newcomer to KAU, she has played softball for two years. A ninth grader at Avon Grove Charter School, she is the daughter of Nancy and Shaun Dickinson of Avondale.Dalton O’Neill, a 6th grader at Kennett Middle School, was named the baseball “Sportsperson of the Year.” The 11-year-old has played KAU baseball for three-and-a-half years and has played basketball for local league teams for two years. He enjoys deep sea fishing and caught his first white marlin at age 10. He lives in Garden Township with Margaret and David O’Neill.

Having “aged-out” of KAU as a baseball player, Josh Kearney returned to the diamond and was selected “Umpire of the Year.” A four-year baseball player at Kennett Area Senior High School, Kearney played for KAU for 10 years and for the District 28 Big League All-Star team which won the state title in 2013, ‘14, and ‘15 and the regional championship in 2014. A senior at the PA Leadership Charter School/Center for Performing and Fine Arts, he plays several stringed instruments and is a member of a local band. He is the son of Darlene and Patrick Kearney of Kennett Township.

Named as “Volunteers of the Year” were Sandi and Jerry Singer of Kennett Township. They were honored for their “behind-the-scenes” efforts in scheduling games and running the snack shack for the many years their three sons—Stefan, jay, and Seth—played KAU baseball. Both of the Singers graduated from Kennett High School and Ursinus College.
