Edward Zunino

The long-time and much beloved Kennett Square police chief, Ed Zunino, died Friday, less than a year after retiring from running the borough police.

Zunino, 67, of West Grove, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on May 12, 2017. He was the husband of Lois McGinnis-Zunino, with whom he shared 22 wonderful years of marriage.

Born in West Grove, PA, he was a son of Mary Daddario Zunino of Avondale and the late Angelo J. Zunino. Ed attended St. Patrick’s School, Kennett High School and the Delaware County Police Academy.

After completing his education, Ed began his police career in his hometown in 1974. Due to his hard work ethic and dedication to the community, he rose through the ranks – auxiliary officer, part-time officer, patrol officer, Detective, Lieutenant, and ultimately Chief of Police in Kennett Square. Ed retired in July of 2016 after 42 years of service for the Borough of Kennett Square.

When Ed wasn’t serving in his official capacity, he was an avid bow-hunter. First and foremost he loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and other family and friends. Ocean City, NJ was a special place Ed enjoyed visiting ever since childhood. He was also an active member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in West Grove, PA.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his children, Michelle Tuel (Ricky), Jennifer Zunino-Smith (Chris), Edward A. Zunino, Jr; his grandchildren, Joseph Tuel, Jack Tuel, Noah Zunino; his brothers, Thomas (Kathy) and David (Diane); his sister, Patricia Quynn (Norman); his brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Doris Brosius; his mother-in-law, Nellie McGinnis; and many special nieces and nephews.

The Zunino family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Dennis Berman, the nurses and office staff of Abramson Cancer Center, their dedicated hospice nurse, Lisa D’Ascenzo and aide, Linda Washington, for their compassion and care during Ed’s time of need.

You are invited to visit with Ed’s family and friends from 2-4PM and 7-9PM on Thursday, May 18th, 2017 at Kuzo & Grieco Funeral Home (610-444-4116) 250 West State Street, Kennett Square, PA 19348 and from 9:30AM – 10:45AM Friday May 19th at Assumption BVM Catholic Church 300 State Rd. West Grove, PA 19390. His Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11AM. Interment will be in Longwood Cemetery in Kennett Square.
