WEST CHESTER – The county’s Democratic Party announced formally on Wednesday that Yolanda de Krol will replace Maria Crossan on the fall ballot for Clerk of Courts. Crossan withdrew from the race, citing family concerns, earlier this month.

The party’s Executive Committee voted unanimously Wednesday night to back Van de Krol. She will face Republican Robin Marcello, who is seeking election to a second term in office.

In a short speech before the late summer Nominating Convention of the County Democrats last night, Van de Krol outlined her business background. She spent 22 years as a bank executive in the Philadelphia region. Her long list of volunteer work includes Board President of Tredyffrin Township Libraries and more recently served as a Board Member of Friends of Paoli Library.

“This opportunity represents a welcome challenge,” explained Van de Krol, who is not new to local politics. She lost by 27 votes in 2015 when she ran for Tredyffrin Supervisor.

“I have the administrative background, the time and energy to pursue it. I have always wanted to make a difference in my community, and I have been impressed with Pat Maisano, Margaret Reif and Dr. Christina Van de Pol, the candidates for the remaining three county row seats. I believe my experiences and skills complement theirs and can see myself running with them as a team.I look forward to serving the residents of Chester County as your next Clerk of Courts.”

Crossan offered her appreciation for the support of the party, but she felt she could not contribute the effort needed to win her race at this time.

“I’m deeply honored by the amount of hard work and support you have given me as the Democratic Candidate for Chester County Clerk of Courts,” Crossan wrote in her resignation letter to Brian J. McGinnis, Chairman of Chester County Democratic Committee. “Unfortunately, I am not able to commit to the amount of time and dedication that you deserve in your candidate. In all good consciousness, I need to step aside in order to honor those candidates that have the time and resources to commit to this process.”
