Christine Anne Smith

Christine Anne Smith of Summerville, South Carolina passed away Friday, February 9, 2018 from injuries sustained in a car accident. She was surrounded by her loving parents, step-parents and brother.

She was born on February 22, 1990 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Margaret Joyce (and her husband, Carl Annas) and Robert D. Smith (and his wife, Sue Welsh).

While in middle school Christine found a love for running and she competed on the Unionville HS Varsity and Cornell University Cross Country & Track teams. In her freshman year, Christine ran second on the Unionville HS 2004 PA State XC Championship team. At only 5 feet tall she flew like the wind.

An excellent student, Christine received a Bachelor of Science degree with honors in Chemical Engineering in 2012 from Cornell University. Happy to leave the cold NY winters behind, she accepted an engineering position with DuPont and moved to Charleston, SC. Knowing she wanted to continue to live near the beach, in 2015 Christine joined a newly formed R&D organization at Boeing as an MP&P Engineer.

Her lifelong talents and interests were many and varied, and included painting portraits, the piano, body surfing the ocean waves, 1000 piece puzzles, online scrabble with friends, bouldering, paint ball and running mud races.

Christine was known for having a soft place in her heart for all animals. From a family of Aussie pups, especially her beloved Zoey and Grizzly, to raising 3 rescued baby squirrels over a winter time, she never turned down a stray.

A beautiful girl with a never ending spirit for life, Christine had a million dollar smile that would light up a room. She now lights up our heavens and watches over us with grace. She was loved and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her parents Margaret (Carl) Annas and Robert (Sue) Smith, her brother Andrew Smith, grandparents Ruth Joyce, Larry and Sally Smith, and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, step-siblings and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandfather Arthur W. Joyce, Jr.

A memorial service will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, February 24th at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1120 Darley Rd., Wilmington, DE 19810. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Red Paw Emergency Relief Team of Philadelphia, PA https://redpawemergencyreliefteam.com/
