Land Conservancy plans busy spring

EAST MARLBOROUGH — The Land Conservancy for Southern Chester County’s (TLC) mission is to ensure the perpetual preservation of open space, natural resources, historic sites, and working agricultural lands throughout southern Chester County.  TLC encourages residents to spend time outside enjoying nature whether it is on one of our nature preserves or the many other open spaces throughout the county.  We hold educational workshops that are open to the public to make them aware of the changes that they can make in their own backyard.  As spring is upon us, we are offering great opportunities for landowners.  Here is a snippet of some of the great events we have occurring this spring.

DO YOU HAVE EROSION PROBLEMS? Come to our rain garden workshop on April 9, 2012 to learn about how a variation on planting a garden can make a difference in your yard.  This workshop will be a hands-on experience. The morning will take place at the Willowdale Town Center in the Chester County Conservation District offices, and the afternoon will be implementing what you learned as you help TLC to create a rain garden outside of their office in the Willowdale Town Center.  Join Claudia West from North Creek Nurseries and Jessica Provinski from TLC as we discuss the implementation of a rain garden.

ARE YOU LOOKING FOR PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE OUT ON THE LAND?  Come to our volunteer day April 15, 2012 at the Stateline Woods Preserve.  Join Tony Hodgson and Jessica Provinski as they tackle management issues at the Stateline Woods Preserve.  We will be putting up bird boxes, potting plants, doing some trail maintenance and invasive control work. This is a great way to give back to your community while learning more about what you can do in your own backyard.

ARE YOU INTERESTED IN LEARNING MORE ABOUT SPRING EPHEMERALS?  Join area botanist Karen Travers and TLC staff on April 20, 2012 for an amazing show of nature at its best.  We will trek to the Susquehanna and Tidewater Canal to check out the beautiful display of spring wildflowers and learn about the area’s ecology.   One of the stars of the show will be a rare white form of purple trillium.

ARE YOU INTERESTED IN MAKING A DIFFERENCE ON YOUR LAND?  TLC offers their Landscape Visionaries program.    Land Stewardship Coordinator, Jessica Provinski will come out to your property to discuss management decisions. After the visit you will receive a detailed report that outlines the ideas that we discussed and the best way to make the changes to your property.  They will include our list of recommended contractors or local nurseries to provide the plants or complete the job for you.  We have an options menu that can be tailored to best suit your needs.

Please visit our website: www.tlcforscc.org or call our offices at 610-347-0347 to receive more information about our programs, or to register to attend one of the upcoming events.   Help us to continue to enjoy and protect our amazing resources while learning how you can encourage that ever elusive bird to visit your property!
