CALN — Brandywine Hospital-Tower Health Interim Chief Executive Officer Vikram Acharya will begin serving a three-year term on the Board of Directors for the Community Volunteers in Medicine (CVIM), effective July 1. CVIM is a nonprofit organization that provides medical care to people without health insurance who live or work in Chester County.

“I am honored to be chosen to serve on the Board of Directors of an organization that helps those who do not have access to medical and dental care,” said Acharya. “Brandywine Hospital also shares the passion of helping people achieve their health goals, and I look forward to assisting CVIM and strengthening partnerships in ways that will benefit the community.”

“We are excited to have Vik join the Board at CVIM and to expand our partnership with Tower Health’s Brandywine Hospital,” said CVIM President and CEO Maureen Tomoschuk. “Clearly, we share a commitment to high quality, accessible and compassionate healthcare.”

CVIM’s mission is to provide access to comprehensive, high quality health care to low-income, working families who have no insurance. CVIM provides preventative, holistic care and treatment that helps people avoid unnecessary visits to hospital emergency departments.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, CVIM focused on keeping patients healthy by providing essential medical care primarily via telehealth, prioritizing behavioral health services, performing emergency dental procedures and dispensing prescription medications. The organization’s officials anticipate a surge in people needing their services in the coming months due to the economic downturn, and loss of jobs and health insurance.

The CVIM Board of Directors consists of approximately 25 volunteer community leaders who govern the organization and guide the strategic direction and provide financial stewardship. The Board is instrumental in developing the partnerships and philanthropic resources required to fulfill CVIM’s mission.

In addition to serving on the CVIM Board of Directors, Mr. Acharya serves on Downingtown-Thorndale Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Board of Directors.
