Aaron Martin died on August 9, 2021 at age 93 in The Summit assisted-living facility.
He is survived by his son, Mark (Kathy) and grandchildren, Taryn (Matthew) and Cody (Isen). His wife of 59 years, formerly Jean Truxal, predeceased him in 2011.
Born in Lancaster, PA, Aaron was the youngest of five children raised by Rev. John H. and Barbara W. Martin. He graduated from Franklin and Marshall College in 1950 with a BS in chemistry, then attained a PhD in analytical chemistry from Pennsylvania State University in 1953. After working at the DuPont Company Experimental Station for five years, he left to found, along with Frank Martinez and Eugene Bennett, F&M Scientific Corporation; specializing in the design and manufacture of analytical instruments known as gas chromatographs.
While engaged in many philanthropic activities, the biggest donations of Aaron’s time and money went to Franklin and Marshall College, Messiah College, Chester County Community Foundation, YMCA of Brandywine Valley, and the Kennett Library. He also funded the startup and development of many small businesses.
He enjoyed music, reading, woodworking, science, good conversation, and playing bridge with his friends in the Nine Man Bridge Club. Aaron also took great pleasure in meeting with his friends every morning for coffee and conversation.
