Police: Man with alleged heroin fails to outrun officers

Coatesville resident, 34, is taken into custody after foot pursuit

Michael Cariola, 34, of Coatesville was arrested Thursday for possession of heroin and related offenses, New Garden Township police said. Police were called to the 1300 block of Newark Road for a subject who had walked away from a facility after discarding suspected narcotics, police said. After a brief foot pursuit, Cariola was taken into custody without incident and remanded to Chester County Prison after failing to post bail.

New Garden police charged Juan Pantoja-Garcia, 46 of Kennett Square, with aggravated assault, simple assault, and related offenses after being called to the 100 block of Pine Street in Toughkenamon for a fight on June 13. Police said Pantoja-Garcia struck the victim in the head multiple times with a rock; Pantoja-Garcia was arraigned and released on $10,000 bail, police said.

Citations for soliciting without the proper permit were filed against Sevell Broadnax, 21, of North Chicago, Ill., and Bobby Appleton, 25, of Akron, Ohio. New Garden police said they were called to the 100 block of Lavender Hill Lane for the complaint of solicitors. Police said the company that employs the men, Graceful Hands Inc. of Grosse Point, Mich., was also cited since they had received previous warnings.

An alleged domestic dispute in the 300 block of Cedar Springs Road on Wednesday led to assault charges against Agustin Duran-Martinez, 31 of Kennett Square, New Garden police said. Duran-Martinez kicked, slapped and choked the victim in front of her 9-year-old child, police said. Duran-Martinez was arraigned and remanded to Chester County Prison after failing to post bail.

New Garden police are investigating several reports of overnight thefts from vehicles in the Bancroft Woods development on June 14. All the vehicles had been left unlocked, police said, adding that the stolen items included money, electronics and tools. Police reminded residents to secure vehicles, refrain from leaving valuables in them, and report any suspicious activity to 610-268-3171 or 911.
