EAST MARLBOROUGH- With the dog days of summer quickly approaching, it’s time to get our student highlight feature going for the upcoming fall season.

Every other week we will be featuring an athlete, artist or student that deserves special recognition for his or her achievements, service to the community or special accomplishment.

The subject of the summer’s first Top of the Tribe (Unionville) / Blue Demon File (Kennett) is 10-year old Ethan Sarosi, who led the KAU All Stars into the District 28 final four for the first time in almost a decade, with a near flawless pitching performance on Sunday July 1, 2012.

With their backs to the wall, having dropped the opening round game, KAU had to battle through the losers bracket, defeating Avon Grove Gold 12-2 and Caln Little league by a count of 16-15 in seven innings, setting the stage for Sunday’s big game with Coatesville.

Sarosi was sensational, pitching five innings, allowing no earned runs, while striking three and giving up just three base hits en route to a 9-5 win and a spot in the quarter finals of the Pennsylvania Little League District 28 tournament.

Five things we just had to know about our subject this week, questions we put to the youngster on the spot.

Who is your favorite baseball player and why?

“Chase Utley, because he just never gives up, he leads his team and is a great baseball player. His attitude is something that I hope some day I can be known for as a team leader.”

What do you do when not on the ball field?

“I love to play videos games with my friends and I actually like to go fishing too.”

What is the one thing you would like your teammates or fans to say about you and the way you play?

“I would like them to say, “He is the best pitcher I have seen”. I want them to say, “He is a winner and always picks his teammates up when they are down and has a great attitude.”

If you could hang out with three people in the world, who would they be?

“Chase Utley, Carlos Ruiz and Hunter Pence, they are just such great players and it would be cool to play baseball or hang out with them.”

What is something that the coaches have helped you with and what have you learned from them?

“They taught me to bend when I pitch,” said the young man that will in fifth grade this fall at Greenwood Elementary. “Throwing strikes is the most important thing to do when I am pitching, my job is to get the ball over the plate and have faith in my fielders to make the plays behind me and they have done a great job at it.”

With a fastball with great location and a devastating change up, Sarosi has set the bar and looks forward to winning more games in tournaments.

“This was fun to play against these great teams,” added Sarosi. “We need to play good defense and keep hitting the ball like we did all weekend, It’s about being part of a team, we all love playing together.”
