The Fall 2023 Fire 1 Academy Class.

On Tuesday, December 12, 2023, 23 dedicated first responders, representing 14 first responder agencies graduated from the Chester County Department of Emergency Services (CCDES) Fall 2023 Fire 1 Academy, class #2391013. These students spent 188 hours (19 weeknights and 18 weekends) starting on September 6, 2023, at the Chester County Public Safety Training Campus (PSTC) learning the knowledge and skills needed to safely and effectively fulfill the duties of being a firefighter.

This year’s Guest Speaker was Chief Mike Risell, Upper Providence Township Fire and Emergency Services, Montgomery County.

The Firefighter 1 course develops an atmosphere of teamwork, self-discipline, respect, and a sense of duty to the fire service and the graduates’ communities. Having 23 newly trained and certified Firefighters serving the Chester County community in a time when staffing, recruitment, and retention are challenging is a tremendous accomplishment and something to be proud of.
