More than 1,000 pets were adopted this past weekend, spearheaded by the Brandywine Valley SPCA adoption event at the Bob Carpenter Center at the University of Delaware this past weekend.

The Brandywine Valley SPCA (BVSPCA) announced today that the weekend’s Mega Adoption Event® resulted in more than 1,000 adoptions. The event, held at the Bob Carpenter Center at the University of Delaware, brought in families from across the region who adopted hundreds of dogs and hundreds of cats from BVSPCA campuses and multiple partner shelters.

This is BVSPCA’s sixteenth Mega Adoption Event in partnership with national non-profit Petco Love and BOBS from Skechers®. Adopted animals ranged from puppies and kittens to seniors and long-time shelter residents. Stand-outs included longest resident dogs from West Chester, New Castle, and Georgetown Campuses, and a bonded pair of senior kitties looking for love after their owner passed away.

“We are so grateful to all of the families who came out over this Father’s Day Weekend to give these great companions a second chance,” said Adam Lamb, BVSPCA Chief Executive Officer. “We’re already seeing updates from families sharing their new cat or dog’s first hours at home and those are the stories that remind us just how important this work is.”

“We are tremendously grateful to the Brandywine Valley SPCA, all the participating organizations, and especially all the adopters that made this two-day Mega Adoption event so successful,” said Petco Love president Susanne Kogut. “The list of heroes for the animals is long. More than 1,000 shelter pets went home this weekend, and are settling in with their new families for a lifetime of love. All of us at Petco Love celebrate this success.”

Just announced, The BVSPCA is extending the $35 adopt fees at all BVSPCA adoption locations, and our affiliation partner Humane Society of Harrisburg Area through June 23 to ensure even more deserving pets find homes. Find a full list of locations at bvspca.org/locations.

The BVSPCA hosts the Mega adoption event, bringing all of the animals from its five adoption locations, with the exception of a few that might find the event venue overwhelming.  In addition, ten shelter partners participated in this weekend’s event, including ACCT Philly, Animal Adoption Center (AAC) (NJ), Animal Care Shelter for Kent County (MD), Animal Rescue League of Berks County, Crossing Paths Animal Rescue (AL), Currituck County Animal Services (NC), Homeward Bound Pet Adoption Center (NJ), Humane Society of Harrisburg Area, and Montgomery County Animal Shelter (TX).

“We’re grateful to help other shelters tap into the adoption capacity in this region, particularly shelters in areas of the country where there are more homeless pets than adopters,” Lamb said.
