County Democrats rip Trump over cut to Ukraine aid

Chester County’s Democratic Committee (CCDC) is responding to Monday night’s disastrous decision by Donald Trump to end Congressionally-approved assistance to Ukraine.

CCDC Chair Charlotte Valyo stated “This move by the administration undermines U.S. support for Ukraine in its conflict with Russia and directly aligns with Russian interests.”

Specifically, county Democrats say, the pause in military aid is likely to weaken Ukraine’s courageous defense capabilities against Russian aggression, resulting in territorial losses and increased casualties. The freeze on aid will further exacerbate economic stability, affecting Ukraine’s ability to rebuild infrastructure and support its population. Finally, this shift to support the dangerous authoritarian aggressor and war criminal – rather than the democratic ally who was invaded and has suffered immeasurable casualties and damage – emboldens Russia and other adversaries, potentially leading to increased global instability and conflicts.

Valyo added “What was clearly a planned White House ambush of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday was apparently only the first step in the complete capitulation of this administration to an evil adversary.. This was an utter embarrassment to our country and history will not be kind to this action. America must be better stewards of democracy.

Further, CCDC opposes what is likely Trump’s next step – to lift all sanctions against Russia and its oligarchs that have been highly effective in isolating the country and impacting its ability to wage unprovoked war on its neighbor. We urge calls to Pennsylvania Senators Fetterman and McCormick and Representative Houlahan to voice concern and urge reconsideration of the order.
