The KSQ Farmers Market
The KSQ Farmers Market is back to its weekly rhythm starting Friday, May 2nd, bringing together farmers and neighbors for the freshest local produce and goods in the heart of Kennett Square. Consumers can connect directly with small growers and producers, building relationships, trust, and a stronger local food economy.
“Coming together as a community to support local farmers and small businesses is more important than ever, and Kennett Collaborative is excited to kick off the new spring season in Kennett Square! Market shoppers can expect a full lineup that will continue to grow through the coming weeks as the weather warms consistently and spring crops ripen for harvest. Our producers sell what they grow and create themselves with great pride and passion, so buying directly from them at market ensures you’re getting fresh quality and flavor,” says Ros Fenton, Community Programs Manager, Kennett Collaborative.
The KSQ Farmers Market is known for a variety of high-quality, in-season produce plus all kinds of meats and cheeses, mushrooms, freshly baked breads and pastries, honey, nut butters, pickles, jams and preserves, local wine and mead, coffee and teas, desserts, pet treats, natural home and skincare products, and beautiful locally-grown flower bouquets. Those who enjoy good food but are short on time can find an assortment of made-from-scratch prepared foods for easy meals to heat and enjoy at home. The market also features services like Wastewell’s convenient composting.
The vendor lineup changes week to week, as some producers attend every Friday, while others come every other week or just once a month. Fenton explains, “As you shop regularly, you get familiar with your favorite producers’ schedules and the natural rhythm of what’s in season, but the best way to keep up with who and what will be at market each Friday is to subscribe to our weekly ‘What’s Fresh’ newsletter at ksqfarmersmarket.com.”
The KSQ Farmers Market partners with Kennett Area Community Service (KACS) to collect weekly donations of dry goods as well as fresh food for their food cupboard. Market shoppers can purchase extra produce, eggs, or other goods while there and place items in the green donation bins throughout the market. Donations are distributed at the food cupboard the following week. This system helps our local farmers and puts fresh, nutrient-dense local foods onto the plates of neighbors in need.
Community support and interaction is deeply valued by the farmers and producers you meet at KSQ and one of the reasons they love selling their goods directly at the farmers market. Farmer Liam Miller of Full Table Farm is excited to return to market on May 2nd, hopefully with the very first pick of their early
strawberries along with young spring greens and other vegetables harvested fresh from their Kennett Square farm, which is just four miles from market.
Miller shares, “I love how many regulars we have at the market. I get to see many of the same customers every week, and I really enjoy getting to know them. Customers tell me about what they are cooking, their mom’s favorite vegetables, or how their new puppy is doing. They have encouraged me to take vacations, they bring me recipes to try and are just generally very excited about our farm and what we grow. It’s a great community experience at KSQ!”
