Anson B. Nixon Park will come alive with the heart and soul of American music during the Second Annual Roots and Blues Festival on Saturday, August 9, a one-day celebration of gritty blues, deep grooves, and local culture. This family-friendly event invites music lovers of all ages to enjoy live performances, food trucks, craft beverages, and artisan vendors in a lush outdoor setting.
The 2025 festival features a powerhouse lineup of regional blues favorites, including:
- Mikey Junior – Electrifying blues harp and vocals
- Johnny Never – Authentic Delta and Piedmont blues
- John Colgan-Davis – Harmonica legend and founding member of The Dukes of Destiny
- The Dukes of Destiny – Philly’s longest-running blues band
- Street Beans – Raucous N’awlins Second Line vibe straight from the streets of Philly
- Stevie and the Bluescasters – High-energy Chicago-style blues
- James Day & the Fish Fry – A spicy mix of blues, funk, and New Orleans soul
“This festival captures the deep roots of American music and brings people together in one of the most beautiful and underrated parks in Chester County,” said Don Robitzer, one of the Festival’s Co-Chairs. “It’s more than a concert—it’s a community experience,” added Co-Chair and KAPA Board Member, Maribeth Minella.
In addition to the music, the Roots and Blues Festival will showcase local food and beverage trucks, artisan vendors, and plenty of space to bring a chair or blanket and soak in the summer sounds.
The Festival is presented by the Kennett Area Park Authority (KAPA), which is the steward of the Anson B. Nixon Park. With no per capita tax-based funding, daily operations are a serious challenge on KAPA’s no-frills budget. A volunteer board and only 2 full-time park staff maintain this local gem. All ticket proceeds allow KAPA to continue the important work of restoring open green space, adding new community programs and creating a vibrant, community driven outdoor space in addition to ongoing maintenance and upgrades.
