Authorities were able to stop a prisoner from escaping from Chester County Prison Wednesday afternoon, local officials said.
According to a statement from county government issued late Wednesday:
“This afternoon, an inmate attempted to escape from the Chester County Prison. He was quickly apprehended due to a combination of security features and prison staff. All inmates are accounted for and there is no threat to the community.
“This is an active criminal investigation led by the Chester County Detectives in full cooperation with the Chester County Prison staff. Further updates will be provided in the future.
“Chester County has been focused on prison security over the last couple of years, and the public should be reassured that this escape attempt was stopped quickly and successfully. We will provide more information as the investigation continues.”
County law enforcement has not released additional information — including the identity of the inmate as yet.
This escape attempt comes two years — almost to the day — of Danilo Cavalcante’s escape from the prison and the resulting two-week manhunt that finally tracked him down.
