Police: Search warrant executed after two-month probe

For two months, Kennett Square police had the residence of two brothers under surveillance for suspected drug trafficking.

Today, police said Joshua Rivera, 22, and Jeremiah Rivera, 18, of the 500 block of Los Rosas Drive were taken into custody last week following an early-morning raid.

Police said they executed a search warrant at the brothers’ home on Thursday and seized about a half-pound of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and cash.

Joshua Rivera was charged with three counts each of delivery of marijuana, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia as well as criminal use of a communications facility, police said.

Jeremiah Rivera was charged with two  counts of possession with intent to deliver marijuana, three counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, and underage possession of alcohol, police said.

Both defendants were arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Daniel J. Maisano. Joshua Rivera was committed to Chester County Prison after failing to post $10,000 bail; his brother was released on unsecured bail, court records said.  A preliminary hearing is scheduled for tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. before Maisano.

Police said the investigation is continuing and more arrests are expected.

In other borough police news, an accused drunk driver faces numerous charges for allegedly ramming two patrol vehicles during a pursuit.

Police said Earl H. Randolph, 54, of Kennett Square,  was driving a black SUV  Friday at 11:20 p.m. when he made a wide turn onto Broad from Birch Street, nearly striking a borough officer on patrol. Police said the officer, who was joined by another officer, attempted to stop Randolph, who showed obvious signs of intoxication.

At one point during the pursuit, Randolph intentionally rammed the driver’s side of one police vehicle and then rammed the front end of the second officer’s vehicle, police said. Randolph then ran off the road into a ditch and struck a stone foundation, enabling the officers to take him into custody, police said.

Police said neither officer was injured, but Randolph complained of pain and was taken to Jennersville Hospital, where he was examined and released, police said. The charges against Randolph include fleeing police, driving under the influence, aggravated assault, driving under suspension and related offenses, police said.

Randolph was taken to Chester County Prison after failing to post $10,000 bail to await a preliminary hearing on Sept. 18, court records said.
