Two seniors are National Merit semifinalists and two earned National Hispanic Recognition

KENNETT SQUARE — Two Kennett High School students been named National Merit Semifinalists in the 58th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Hannah Frank and Molly Shiflet, part of an elite group that represents less than one percent of U. S. high school seniors, will compete for scholarships worth more than $32 million.

“Both Hannah and Molly exemplify the true essence of a Kennett High School student,” said Kennett High Principal Michael Barber.  “They routinely challenge themselves to be better by taking the most rigorous courses and rise to the occasion on every instance to ensure success.  We are very proud to have them as part of our Kennett family.”

Barber was equally effusive about the achievements of Natalie Senderowicz and Jamilee Jimenez Perez, who were selected for the National Hispanic Recognition Program. It honors nearly 5,000 of the highest-scoring students from the approximately 235,000 Hispanic/Latino juniors who take the PSAT or other qualifying standardized test. The students, who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents, come from the United States, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, the Mariana Islands and the Marshall Islands, as well as U.S. citizens attending schools abroad.

In addition, Kennett is also celebrating the selection of seven students as commended National Merit scholars. They are Connor Dalphon, Richard Fucci, Jason Kim, Kyle Ropp, Koji Shimomura, Emma Spell and Zach Bolten.

“Congratulations to all who have had an positive impact on our students,” said Barber.
