Late comeback stuns Blue Demons; state playoff hopes fade

WESTTOWN — West Chester Rustin used a furious comeback in the final minutes to hold off Kennett, 29-26, in a ChesMont American Division battle, Friday night.

Although stunned by the late Knights’ offensive explosion — Rustin grabbed a 29-18 lead in the final minutes — the Blue Demons (3-2, 1-1) put together a drive, capped by a Jordan Lardani score, to get the game within three points. But Kennett could not get the ensuring onside kick, and Rustin (4-1, 1-1) was able to run out the clock.

Lardani, emerging as of the best running backs in Chester County, rushed for two more touchdowns in the game and rushed for 140 yards, while Carl Lowe rushed for 103, most coming on his 85-yard TD run in the second quarter.

Athough Kennett got off to a 3-0 start, with two straight losses, the road to state playoff bracket could be tough. The Blue Demons will have to run the table, likely, which could mean a regular season ending showdown with neighboring Unionville, which handed Rustin its only loss last week and face Coatesville today.
