88th Annual fair kicks off this weekend, fun for the entire family; beekeepers just one of many new attractions

A Unionville Elementary School student gets to know a chick a little better during the 2011 Unionville Fair. This year’s fair kicks off Friday and promises to be bigger, better and even more exciting than ever.

EAST MARLBOROUGH — Looking for great family fun this weekend – something offering Free admission, Free parking and Free entertainment? Look no further than the Unionville Community Fair and Farm Show, sponsored by Landhope Farms on the grounds at Routes 82 and 926.

Fair President, Jayne Shea says visitors will enjoy several new attractions including an expanded Demo tent with presentations by Chester County Beekeepers, Cooking for Real, the Southern Chester County Land Trust and Coatesville Farmers Market.

Local wineries will be on hand to talk about the wine making process, promote their wineries and sell their product, says Fair Vice-President, Dave Lichter, but “there won’t be any tasting or drinking on the fairgrounds -purely educational.”

A mechanical bull ride makes its debut Friday and Saturday, a preview to the second annual Willowdale Pro Rodeo scheduled for Saturday Night at 6pm.

Shea says Debra Pieri, a retired Coatesville school teacher and long time Fair friend will be in the Storytelling Tent and this year Alpacas will join the Walk A Llama activity. There will be plenty of fresh produce at the Calico Cupboard as well as everything “bovine” to benefit the Unionville Elementary School PTO.

Shea wants to remind Fair goers that a majority of the proceeds each year go to support local organizations including Po-Mar-Lin and Longwood Fire Companies as well as the Unionville Community Scholarship Fund.
